Our choices of how to care for our child have worked well.
When she was teething, we gave her Hyland's homeopathic Teething Tablets, and they worked well.
For more intense teething pain, and occasional bouts of colic, we gave her "Calms Forte", Hyland's strong homeopathic formula for pain and insomnia. The chamomile in the formula renders it very effective for both complaints, and quite soothing to her stomach.
Sprout has been sick twice in her two years, both times with a brief cold, which we treated with homeopathic medicine, herbal remedies in the form of "tea bottles" of Celestial Seasonings' Sleepytime and/or Lemon Zinger teas, and occasional frequency specific microcurrent therapy through the field effect - she's had pain-related settings run while I nursed her, and it is very effective in relieving teething pain. Sleepytime tea contains chamomile and mint, and is very soothing to the stomach and digestive tract, as well as being mildly sleep-inducing, and useful to help the baby sleep. Lemon Zinger tea contains lemongrass, which is good for congestion and runny nose, and rose hips, which are a good source of vitamin C, together with a few other ingredients which make it taste good and beneficial for cold, flu, or congestion. The two teas combine well, and are quite safe for infants.
We have used acupressure, as well, most often in the form of acupressure on the points in the ear for teething pain.
She has never had any other form of medicine in her life, with the exception of the few I've mentioned that she got second hand through my milk. Her health is not a result of isolation, either, as she plays regularly with many other children.
Our pediatrician was quite helpful and reassuring, though our visits were a bit out of his usual pattern, due to the choice not to vaccinate. The midwife had been right, he was quite able to accept our reasoning for the decision, and has spoken for us on the matter in our application for our move to the new country where we intend to build our home. The government requires the examining doctor to recommend vaccination to the parents of any child who is not already vaccinated.
